President Elect Donald Trump has announced a bold plan to sever the United States’ relationship with the World Health Organization (WHO) if he is elected again, accusing the international body of being a “corrupt globalist scam” under the influence of China. Trump’s criticism of the WHO centers on its handling of the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, during which he claims the organization “covered the tracks” of the Chinese Communist Party and failed to hold China accountable.
“From the very beginning, the World Health Organization disgracefully protected the Chinese Communist Party, allowing the China virus to spread unchecked across the world,” Trump said in a statement. “For that reason, it was my great honor to terminate America’s relationship with the WHO.”
Trump also took aim at President Joe Biden, who reversed the former president’s decision to withdraw from the WHO shortly after taking office. Trump argues that Biden’s actions were part of a broader push to undermine U.S. sovereignty. In particular, Trump criticized Biden for supporting the so-called “Pandemic Treaty,” an international agreement that, if signed, could give the WHO greater authority in managing global health crises. Trump claims this treaty would essentially surrender American sovereignty to an organization controlled by China.
“Crooked Joe Biden foolishly re-entered the WHO, and now he’s pushing to bypass the Senate to sign a treaty that would surrender American sovereignty to the WHO—once again controlled by China,” Trump said.
As part of his plan, Trump vowed to take immediate action on the issue if elected for a second term.
Trump’s Plan as President:
- Terminate the Pandemic Treaty: Trump promised to immediately withdraw the U.S. from any international agreements that would transfer health authority to the WHO or any other global body.
- Reject the Globalist Agenda: He pledged not to allow public health concerns to be used as a pretext to further the cause of global governance, which he views as a threat to U.S. independence.
- Withdraw from the WHO: Trump would reinstate his previous decision to sever U.S. ties with the World Health Organization, calling it a “corrupt” entity that prioritizes globalist interests over American sovereignty.
- Forge a New Coalition: Trump said he would work to build a new international coalition of countries that are committed to protecting public health while also respecting national sovereignty and freedom.
Trump also reflected on his previous decision to withdraw from the WHO, claiming that the international body was so eager to re-establish ties with the U.S. that it offered him a deal worth “$25 to $30 million” to rejoin. “And I said, NO, I’ll wait,” he added.
The former president’s remarks come amid ongoing debates in Washington over the role of international organizations in U.S. domestic policy. Supporters of the WHO and the Pandemic Treaty argue that global cooperation is essential to addressing future health threats, while critics like Trump see it as a step toward eroding national autonomy.
Trump’s strong stance on sovereignty and his opposition to globalist institutions are likely to resonate with his base, which remains highly critical of international agreements and organizations that they perceive as encroaching on U.S. independence.
