Uganda’s senior men’s national football team, the Uganda Cranes, has been placed in Group K for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. Thursday’s draw in Johannesburg also placed Uganda alongside South Africa, Congo, and South Sudan.
The draw was conducted by Ivory Coast Head Coach Emerse Faé and former Morocco international Marouane Chamakh. Uganda, seeded in Pot 2, will face teams from Pots 1, 3, and 4. South Africa was in Pot A, while Congo and South Sudan were in Pots 3 and 4, respectively.
Uganda aims to return to the AFCON after missing the last two editions, with a long-term goal of participating in the 2027 AFCON, which they will co-host with Tanzania and Kenya.
The top two teams from each group, excluding the group with hosts Morocco, will qualify for the final tournament. The qualification matches are set for September, October, and November this year.
