Singer Azawi has urged her fellow artists to become more involved in the civic affairs of the country. She emphasized that musicians should not only focus on profiting from their fans but also listen to their grievances and advocate for changes that benefit everyone.

Using her social media platforms, Azawi stated, “Imagine where our country would be if we didn’t have ABAKAMUZI!! Ugandans are very hardworking people, but the majority of our leaders have let us down because of their greed. However, God does not tolerate corruption! Thanks to the #UgandaParliamentExhibition.”

She continued, “We artists are quiet, and we’re watching these guys loot our fans to the ground. Shameless Cowards!!”

This is not the first time Azawi has spoken out about politics and leadership. In a recent radio show in Ghana, she criticized Ugandan politicians for failing to protect the rights of performing artists.

Activism in music has seen some artists, like Bobi Wine, transition into politics to advocate for change within their communities. Azawi’s call to action reinforces the role of artists in shaping societal and political landscapes.
