Swangz Avenue singer Azawi real name Zawedde Priscilla has questioned government motive of giving artistes SACCO money.
She wondered what would happen if some artistes fail to pay back the loan that was given to them.
The Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) led by Eddy Kenzo managed to get government money. He said the money is meant to help an artiste get their life together.
He said it is going to be given to artistes as loan and they will be paying that loan back once they are done with the usage if it.
According to Azawi, she doesn’t know if artistes know what will happen to them in case they don’t pay back.
She said there is a possible that they can lose their music to the government just because of the loan they took without knowing it’s consequences.
“The Federation SACCO money was given out but it’s shocking that the already “established” artists are the ones that got the fattest amounts and are not obliged to pay back. (as in bbo babawa buwi kavangata)
However those who struggling are the ones are borrowing. My question is,
Do these struggling artists know the repercussions of failure to payback government money?
What if the government takes their entire music catalogue, are they ready for that?”
