Today, two political arch-rivals namely; the National Unity Platform (NUP) party president, Mr Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, and the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) party bigwigs will face off in Hoima district by-election where the LCV polls have hit the climax.
At least 100,396 registered as voters to participate in the by-election scheduled for September 14.
It has been a while since NUP/People Power won a by-election with the closest victory being the December 2021 Kayunga LCV by-election that would later be overturned dramatically by the Electoral Commission in favour of NRM party after the returning office pronounced Andrew Muwonge as victor despite sounding wins by Harriet Nakwedde at several polling stations.

In the Hoima by-election, NUP is rallying behind Aguda Moses while the NRM party fronted Mugisha Uthuman Mubaraka.
The position fell vacant after the death of Kadiri Kirungi on March 17 in a road crash at Mataagi Village in Bukomero Town Council on the Kampala-Hoima Highway in Kiboga District.
Kyagulanyi has spent the past fortnight embarking on a nationwide mobilization tour for his opposition party ahead of the 2026 general elections.
