Irked by NUP party president Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert’s bitter Luweero remarks against nepotism and pronounced tribalism in the NRM government, self professed head of the Abavandimwe ethnic minority Mr. Frank Gashumba has angrily retaliated with a swipe at the opposition figure.
According to Gashumba whose ancestry roots are originally traceable to Rwanda, it is impossible for Mr. Kyagulanyi to solely rely on his Buganda support base yet he holds presidential ambitions.
“Bobi Wine has finally revealed himself that he is incapable. His tribalisitc statements in Luweero have truly showed what he is. He forgets that the Bavandimwe group make the biggest part of Uganda’s population. Secondly never underestimate a group of people who fought and captured Kampala, proceeded to Rwanda and captured Kigali and then Kinshasa in DRC. By nature no one can be threatened and he or she doesn’t prepare to defend self,” Frank M. Gashumba stated.
He added, “In Buganda here, there is no family that has no Banywarwanda blood. An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us. As you sit down in meetings to plan and alienate Banywarwanda, just know before you even storm out of the meeting, you will be surronded. I want any muganda to show me a munyarwanda who has forcefully taken his land. Baganda sell off their land willingly and then later pretend it was taken forcefully.”
Gashumba further castigates the NRM government for having restored cultural institutions which to him have played a divisive agenda other than being unifying institutions.
“It was wrong to include tribes in our constitution. Nyerere saw it in Tanzania and banned them right away. Nothing hurts me like looking at each other using tribal lenses. Any leader who will come out and strongly ban tribes in Uganda would have done great for this nation,” Gashumba said. “If you want to be President, Speak about issues and injustices that affect the population and offer a hope for the solutions. He has pressed a wrong a button by starting to play a tribal card. He forgets Baganda alone cannot bring him to power and his words truly show he is idealess and weak politically,” he urged Bobi.
The NUP president however in a cryptic Sunday social media message sounded unapologetic as he stated, “They OPENLY PRACTICE TRIBALISM & NEPOTISM in every sphere and institution, but they’re not ashamed to blame those who expose it and call them out. Hypocrites!”
