The Church of Uganda has taken a significant step by officially registering and trademarking bishops’ vestments. This move, announced on Monday in Kampala, aims to prevent their misuse by the public, including comedians and creatives.

The Anglican Church’s initiative, completed through the Uganda Registrations Services Bureau (URSB), legally restricts the wearing of bishops’ vestments to ordained clergy members only, making it unlawful for unauthorized individuals to don these sacred garments.

Bishop Nathan Ahimbisibwe of South Ankole, addressing the media, emphasized the necessity of this measure. He highlighted concerns over the increasing misuse of clergy attire in various performances and public appearances, which have eroded the respect and dignity traditionally associated with these garments.
