A leaked payroll allegedly showing the salaries of NBS TV staff has revealed the earnings of some of the station’s prominent journalists. The leak was reportedly done by a former NBS TV staff member who left the country for studies.
According to the leaked information, Canary Mugume tops the list of the popular staff with a salary of UGX 6.3 million. Samson Kasumba follows with UGX 4.6 million, while Mildred Tuhaise earns UGX 2 million. Victoria Bagaya’s salary is noted at UGX 618,000, and Simon Kaggwa Njala earns UGX 1.7 million.
The leak has sparked controversy and has been a significant issue for NBS TV. The company has accused the former staff member, who also worked as a photographer for the National Unity Platform (NUP), of being a spy planted by the police in the newsroom.
The disgruntled ex-employee claims that despite his hard work, NBS TV failed to pay him for his services, which led to his decision to release the payroll information.
The situation has drawn public attention and debate over the working conditions and remuneration of journalists in Uganda. NBS TV has not yet commented on the authenticity of the leaked payroll or the allegations made by the former staff member.
