Speculation is rife that Diana Museveni, the youngest daughter of President Yoweri Museveni, may throw her hat into the ring for the Ntungamo Woman MP seat in the forthcoming 2026 elections.

Reports from Ntungamo suggest that a group of elders is actively lobbying Diana Museveni to contest the parliamentary seat, positioning her as a formidable candidate for the upcoming polls.

At 44 years old, Diana Museveni boasts a wealth of experience, having played a pivotal role in managing her father’s ranching affairs. Her academic background in archaeology, acquired from the United States, further bolsters her credentials for political leadership.

The potential candidacy of Diana Museveni has garnered attention, particularly given her recent divorce from her husband of 18 years, Geoffrey Kamuntu, signaling a new chapter in her personal and professional life.

Ntungamo holds significant historical significance for the Museveni family, as it is the birthplace of First Lady Janet Museveni, Diana’s mother. Janet Museveni previously represented Ruhama County in parliament for two terms before retiring from elective politics.

Currently, the NRM party holds the Ntungamo Woman MP seat, with Hon. Kamateneti Josyline serving as the incumbent representative.

If Diana Museveni decides to heed the calls to contest, she will likely face a rigorous internal selection process within the NRM party to secure the party’s nomination.
