The leadership of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) faction based in Najjanankumbi, led by President Patrick Amuriat, has announced intentions to pursue legal action against the Katonga faction, which is associated with former FDC president and presidential candidate, Dr. Kizza Besigye.

Amuriat condemned the Katonga faction’s activities, accusing them of misusing FDC symbols, including the party’s flag, motto, colors, and slogans, while masquerading as genuine FDC representatives during their countrywide consultation meetings.

During a press briefing in Kampala, Amuriat emphasized, “They are violating the constitution of the FDC, and we will not hesitate to take legal action against this group.”

Tensions within the FDC have escalated, with Amuriat and Secretary General Nandala Mafabi embroiled in disputes with other senior party members who have alleged that they received funds from President Museveni to finance the party’s 2021 election campaign.

The Katonga faction, spearheaded by Dr. Kizza Besigye, comprises prominent figures such as Wafula Oguttu, Wasswa Birigwa, Doreen Nyanjura, Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago, and Ssemujju Nganda. They are currently engaged in consultations with the aim of potentially launching a new political party distinct from the FDC.
