The list of students who will receive government sponsorship to study at Makerere University and Makerere University Business School (MUBS) has been released.
Prof. Buyinza Mukadasi, the Academic Registrar at Makerere University, confirmed the release of the lists yesterday. “Of the 4,000 students admitted on this scheme to public universities, we have admitted about 1,000 students to Makerere University and about 450 to MUBS,” Prof. Mukadasi said in a telephone interview.
He further revealed that they are still waiting to finalize admissions for students on other government scholarship schemes, such as the District Quota, Sports, and Disability schemes.
In addition to the government-sponsored schemes, there are also mature entry schemes and admissions for students on private sponsorship.
The students being admitted under these schemes are those who sat for their Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams last year. They are set to join for the academic year 2024/2025, which is scheduled to start in August this year.
Top Schools Dominate the List
As usual, top-performing schools led the government sponsorship list. These included Seeta High School, St. Mary’s SS Kitende, Mt. St. Mary’s Namagunga, Midland High School, Bishop Cyprian Kihangire SS Luzira, St. Francis Borgia High School, St. Joseph’s Girls Nsambya, Buddo Secondary School, Bweranyangi Girls’ School, Seeta H/S Green Campus Mukono, St. Noa Mawagali SS Jinja, and Mengo Secondary School Annex.
The government annually sponsors 4,000 students who are admitted to all nine public universities across the country.
