Frank Gashumba, Vice Chairman for the Central Region of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), has responded sharply to Chairman Hon. Micheal Mawanda’s summons for him to appear before the PLU committee regarding his recent remarks on security.
The summons followed a tweet from Gashumba’s X account, where he called on all security organizations to defend the people and property of Ugandans amidst rising urban gang crime.
Hon. Mawanda deemed Gashumba’s communication inappropriate for a Muhoozi loyalist, prompting the summons.
In a scathing open letter shared online, Gashumba accused Mawanda of hypocrisy, stating, “You are busy summoning me, but when will you summon your friend, a Minister who embarrassed PLU mobilizers by stealing rice and meat at an event when General Muhoozi Kainerugaba visited Masaka? How can a so-called ‘Hon Minister’ turn into a petty thief at a public gathering? Prayers alone cannot save this country. By the way, tell us, when will you appear before CID for corruption and theft of cooperatives money meant for compensating poor people to the tune of UGX 164bn?”
Gashumba continued, “I am shocked that for someone who purports to be a leader, you are more preoccupied with the fact that Gashumba spoke out about the security threats posed by criminal gangs terrorizing Ugandans, instead of being concerned about the problem of urban criminality and insecurity facing Ugandans!”
Appearing on a TV show, Gashumba strongly warned those attempting to silence him, stating he would gladly leave PLU and live freely, as he refuses to be caged like a lion.
