Veteran artist Henry Tigan has shed light on the evolution of the Ugandan music industry, highlighting the pivotal role played by social media in its advancement.
Tigan, a veteran in the industry, reminisced about his heyday as a top-tier musician and revealed his reasons for halting the release of new music.
He cited the exorbitant costs associated with producing music and the minimal returns on investment as factors that contributed to his decision. At one point, Tigan even sought opportunities abroad in pursuit of better prospects.
However, Tigan expressed optimism about the current state of the music industry, attributing its progress to the accessibility and affordability of promotion channels, particularly social media platforms.
He emphasized that social media has democratized the pathway to stardom, making it easier for aspiring artists to gain recognition and reach audiences.
“Many people underestimate the impact of social media, but it has been instrumental in the development of the Ugandan music industry,” Tigan remarked. “Today, aspiring musicians have unprecedented opportunities to showcase their talent and connect with fans, unlike the challenges we faced in the past.”
