Veteran actor John Segawa has weighed in on the debate surrounding the participation of Ugandan musicians in the film industry, emphasizing the need for professionalism and discipline among artistes venturing into acting.
Speaking candidly on the matter, Segawa expressed reservations about the readiness of many musicians to undertake acting roles, citing concerns over their lack of professionalism and discipline.
He opined that while musicians often dominate the acting scene in other countries, Uganda’s film industry requires a higher level of commitment and dedication.
“In other developed countries, many musicians seamlessly transition into acting roles. However, in Uganda, we have observed a lack of professionalism and discipline among some musicians attempting to act,” Segawa remarked.
The accomplished actor highlighted the limited success of musicians who have ventured into acting in Uganda, noting that their contributions to the film industry have been minimal.
He stressed the importance of maintaining standards in filmmaking and urged musicians to approach acting roles with diligence and respect.
“While the inclusion of musicians in films can be beneficial, it is crucial that they possess the necessary discipline and respect for the craft,” Segawa asserted. “In Uganda, our film industry requires dedicated professionals who are committed to delivering quality performances.”
Segawa’s comments come amid ongoing discussions within Uganda’s entertainment circles regarding the integration of musicians into the film industry.
