After months of speculation surrounding his whereabouts and health, Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi of Buganda has made a public appearance in a recorded video message from a hospital facility in Namibia. This appearance aims to address concerns and provide updates on his condition.
In the video, the Kabaka reassured his people, stating, “I greet you all, our people. I, Ssabasaja Kabaka, came here to rest and receive medical treatment as per doctors’ orders. We have spent a lot of time without communicating with you because it was because of doctors’ orders. Our health has greatly improved, and we hope to return home soon.”
The Kabaka expressed gratitude for the prayers and steadfastness of Buganda, adding, “We thank God and Buganda for the prayers and remaining calm and steadfast. We thank the Katikiro and all ministers of the Kabaka that have stayed working for the good of the kingdom. Like we always say, our power is in unity. God keep you safe.”
The Kabaka’s message comes amid criticism directed at the Katikiro, Charles Peter Mayiga, and other Buganda leaders for their handling of the Kabaka’s health and their failure to provide timely updates. Mayiga has consistently emphasized that the Kabaka’s return will be determined by medical advice, not public pressure. “The Kabaka will return when the doctors say so, not when social media trolls demand,” he has reiterated on numerous occasions.
The Kabaka, who has been recuperating, is expected to return to Uganda once his treatment is complete and he receives medical clearance for travel.
