At least seven individuals, including city lawyer Pius Kasana, have been arrested in connection with the shooting and injuring of police constable Pascal Musobozi three days ago.

The incident occurred around 1 am when Nabbingo police responded to residents’ complaints about excessive noise from a local bar. Four police officers arrived at the bar and ordered it to close, but their directives were ignored.

Among those allegedly inciting the bar’s patrons against the police was lawyer Pius Kasana. Witnesses claim that Kasana warned the officers they would face severe consequences if they attempted to close the bar by force.

Sensing potential danger, the police decided to retreat and return with reinforcement. However, about 70 meters from the bar, a shot was fired from the crowd, striking and injuring Musobozi.

Musobozi was rushed to Cardinal Nsubuga Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Mulago Hospital for specialized treatment. Subsequently, police arrested seven people, including Kasana, who is reportedly the bar owner. The other individuals arrested are Raya Namiya, Sauda Nakimera, Teddy Kambada, Aisha Nakolola, Annet Kabasenyi, and Aisha Nalubega.

According to police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, local residents have provided information indicating that Kasana possesses a pistol, which he has allegedly used to threaten those who complain about the noise from his bar. “The drinking joint is called Kasana’s Bar, and locals have said it belongs to this lawyer Pius Kasana. They have also told us that they often see him with the gun. We suspect he is the one who shot and injured our police officer,” Owoyesigyire stated.

Kasana has denied owning a pistol, despite police recording statements from five individuals accusing him. Owoyesigyire said the police are working to recover the gun to determine the shooter’s identity.

According to the police department of private security organizations and firearms, over 20,000 guns are in private hands, with more than 5,000 licensed gun owners in Wakiso, where Nabbingo is located.
