Hon. Mathias Mpuuga, the embattled Member of Parliament for Nyendo-Mukungwe municipality in Masaka district, has spoken out about his ongoing conflicts with the leadership of the National Unity Platform (NUP), expressing his discontent in a recent interview.
During a conversation with Mildred Tuhaise on TV this morning, Mpuuga was asked several pointed questions, and his responses reflected a deep rift between him and his party.
On Meetings with NUP: When asked about the last time he attended a meeting with NUP, Mpuuga responded, “I haven’t met or had a conversation with NUP in quite a while.”
On Reaching Out: Asked why he hasn’t made efforts to reach out to the party, Mpuuga stated, “I don’t know why they don’t reach out to have a conversation. They are the ones who are hounding me and haunting me; it’s up to them.”
Message to Party Leadership: If given the opportunity to meet with the NUP leadership, Mpuuga said, “I would tell them they are a big letdown. The public expects better and more from them. The amount of time, energy, and resources committed to trying to bury the person of Mathias Mpuuga could have been used elsewhere. I would ask them how they feel now that they’ve not succeeded.”
Future with NUP: When asked if his time with NUP is coming to an end, Mpuuga remarked, “That would be a conversation when my party fails to understand what to do.”
Mpuuga’s comments highlight the significant tensions within NUP and his dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership.
