In a heated exchange, Robert Mukiza, the Director General of the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA), has strongly contested claims made by Investment State Minister Evelyn Anite regarding a Sh545 million honorarium.

The funds, distributed among UIA staff and a select team working on the Kampala Industrial and Business Park (KIBP) infrastructure project, were part of a larger UK Export Finance (UKEF) loan secured by the government.

Mukiza’s letter to Anite, dated July 23, challenges Anite’s assertions that the honorarium was illicit and demanded a refund. Mukiza accused Anite of falsehoods, including misrepresenting interactions with the former British High Commissioner to Uganda and alleged misconduct in dealings with UKEF. He defended the honorarium, stating it was legally sanctioned for additional work on the KIBP project and approved by the UIA board.

The conflict further escalated when Mukiza criticized Anite for defamatory remarks about Sheikh Mohammed Juma Al Maktoum, a Dubai-based investor involved in the project. Mukiza demanded an apology for what he described as scandalous and fraudulent statements made by Anite.

In response to Anite’s claims of corruption and project delays, Mukiza reiterated his position and urged Anite to honor her previous commitment to resign if proven wrong. He challenged her to provide concrete evidence to counter his defense, and questioned the integrity of her accusations.
