The ongoing renovation efforts at Namboole Stadium have encountered a significant obstacle following revelations that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has declined to approve the works due to unresolved issues with the stadium’s parking lot.

Parliament was informed of CAF’s refusal to grant approval for the renovations after the government failed to address the presence of Pioneer Buses in Namboole’s parking lot.

Despite the expiration of their 5-year lease, these buses have remained on the premises, hindering the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) from carrying out necessary markings on the parking area as required by CAF.

Minister Peter Ogwang, addressing the issue, highlighted the importance of resolving the parking situation to meet CAF’s standards. “One of the issues raised in the CAF report was us putting signage on what the parking will be within the stadium. We must demarcate a parking space for our fans,” Minister Ogwang stated. He emphasized the need to officially remove the buses from the stadium to ensure compliance with CAF’s requirements.

The Minister further indicated that efforts are underway to address the situation promptly. “I have directed the contractor to assist in removing the buses from the stadium because it is essential to have the stadium without any hindrance,” Minister Ogwang affirmed. He noted that the Uganda Land Commission had leased out the parking area of Namboole Stadium and assured that necessary steps would be taken to comply with CAF’s directives.
