Joseph Tamale Mirundi, a prominent political commentator and former presidential press secretary, has passed away at the age of 60. Mirundi died of lung-related complications on Tuesday night at around 11:40 p.m. at Kisubi Hospital in Kampala, as confirmed by family sources.
Mirundi had been hospitalized for over a month, with his condition initially showing signs of improvement. One of his sons shared, “He had even started showing signs of improvement. On Sunday and Monday, he seemed okay. The doctors said he had water in his lungs. They have been sucking it out. However, today his health condition deteriorated and when they tried to suck the fluid out, it was blood.”
Mirundi’s tenure as the presidential press secretary under President Yoweri Museveni spanned 13 years, from 2002 until his dismissal in July 2015. Following his exit from the post, Mirundi became a regular commentator on various television stations and vlogs, where he continued to provide his insights on politics and current affairs.
Born in 1964 to Molly Namatovu and Yowana Mirundi, Joseph Tamale Mirundi attended Rubaga Senior Secondary School for his secondary education before pursuing higher studies at Makerere University. Known for his outspoken nature and as a staunch member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Mirundi leaves behind a legacy of strong political opinions and commentary.
