It’s been a year since the music world lost an iconic figure, Three 6 Mafia’s Gangsta Boo, whose real name was Chantrelle Lola Mitchell. On January 1st, DJ Paul, known as the King of Memphis, took to Instagram to pay a heartfelt tribute to the late rapper. Gangsta Boo was found unresponsive at her mother’s home in Memphis, Tennessee, on the first day of 2023. At 43 years old, she tragically succumbed to an accidental overdose involving a lethal combination of fentanyl, cocaine, and ethanol (alcohol).

In an emotional Instagram post, DJ Paul shared a series of edited photographs of the departed rapper, creating the illusion of Gangsta Boo smiling down from heaven. Accompanying the visuals was the poignant song “Love Don’t Live (U Abandoned Me),” serving as a fitting soundtrack to commemorate Gangsta Boo’s memory. In his caption, DJ Paul expressed the depth of his emotions: “1 Year Today & I Can Feel It! Started Feeling it A Month Ago. Rest Queen, You’ve Worked Hard Enough.”

As fans and the music community reflect on the impact of Gangsta Boo’s contributions to Three 6 Mafia and the rap scene, her untimely passing serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by artists in the industry and the importance of addressing mental health and substance abuse issues.
