Tensions ran high at Parliament this morning as Speaker Anita Among and Members clashed over the agenda.

The Speaker attempted to proceed with business as usual, but Leader of the Opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi, raised a procedural issue regarding the #UgandaParliamentExhibition.

Ssenyonyi asked the speaker to make a pronouncement on the issues raised on social media before the house can proceed.

Amidst the exchange, the Speaker lauded Ssenyonyi for his contributions to Lubowa Hospital’s development s a diversion technique and said that since it was a special sitting the house should go straight to ministerial policy statements.

Despite protests, the Speaker insisted on following protocol, prompting further dissent.

Kampala Central MP, Muhammed Nsereko, argued for progression after the Speaker’s address, echoed by Sarah Opendi.

However, tensions escalated when Hon. Ssekikubo, long ignored, voiced concerns about prioritizing trivial matters over serious allegations against Parliament.

Despite attempts to silence him, Ssekikubo persisted, emphasizing the need for accountability.

The Speaker eventually offered a response, dismissing allegations as hearsay motivated by opposition activits funded by homosexuals and gay communities to fight her over her support of the Anti-Gay Law passed by the same house late last year.

The session transitioned to discussions on airport infrastructure, with MPs highlighting dilapidated airfields. The Speaker joined in, expressing concern over land disputes affecting Soroti airfield.
