Spice Diana has joined fellow artist Azawi in criticizing the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), calling it “fraudulent.”
The UNMF, established last year to protect artists’ rights, has been losing support from its members. Many have left, citing delays, lost values, and unmet promises. Spice Diana, one of the founding members, voiced her dissatisfaction, stating that she never received any financial benefit from the organization.
She decided to distance herself from the UNMF upon realizing that its goals had shifted away from advocating for copyright laws. Spice Diana’s comments were made in support of Azawi, who recently criticized musicians for their silence on issues affecting Ugandans, especially corruption.
Azawi highlighted the irony of artists receiving public support while remaining silent on critical issues troubling their fans. She suggested that some wealthy musicians might have been compromised by the government, preventing them from speaking out.
Spice Diana acknowledged the struggles faced by Ugandans, although she admitted to lacking concrete proof of which musicians might have received government money.
