Swangz Avenue boss Benon has come under heavy criticism from social media users after it was revealed that artist Azawi deleted her tweets supporting the anti-corruption march to Parliament and criticizing the government.
Azawi, known for her outspoken stance on governance issues, had posted a series of tweets urging the government to heed the voices of the youth before it was too late. However, these tweets were subsequently deleted, sparking a backlash on social media.
Many users on the platform X speculated that the deletion was a result of pressure from Swangz Avenue management, particularly Benon, who feared potential retribution from the government and wanted to distance the record label from political activism.
“Shame on you, Benon, for forcing Azawi to delete her tweets,” one user commented.
Swangz Avenue and its management have yet to issue a statement regarding the incident. The silence from the label has only fueled further speculation and criticism.
Azawi’s deleted tweets were in support of the “March to Parliament” protest, which saw heavy police and army presence in Kampala. The protest aimed to highlight widespread corruption in the government and included demands for the resignation of key political figures, reduction of MPs, and increased transparency and accountability from public officials.
