Unknown thugs attacked Bishop Zac Niringiye and stole his mobile phone on Monday around midday. The incident occurred on Commercial Road near Rock View Hotel in Ntinda, Nakawa Division, Kampala City.

The attackers, riding on a motorcycle, struck Bishop Niringiye on the head with a blunt object while he was jogging, causing him to lose consciousness. They then robbed him of his iPhone 13 Pro Max, according to Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesman, Mr. Luke Owoyesigyire.

This marks the second attack on Bishop Niringiye in the same parish. The first incident occurred on July 28, 2021, at around 6:45 pm as he was walking back home in Ntinda, a high-end residential area in Kampala. In that instance, the assailants also stole his phone, and police were unable to apprehend them.

In the latest attack, passersby found Bishop Niringiye unconscious in the middle of the road and administered first aid. After regaining consciousness, he was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for his injuries and examined. Fortunately, he did not suffer any broken bones and was subsequently discharged.

Police officers visited Bishop Niringiye at his home after being informed of the incident by a journalist. “He hadn’t reported the case to police in time. It was our officers who approached him at home where his statement was recorded. Efforts to get CCTV footage in the area to help us with the investigations are ongoing,” said Mr. Owoyesigyire.

Attempts by Monitor to get a comment from Bishop Niringiye, both by phone and at his residence, were unsuccessful.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman Patrick Onyango stated that they have intensified joint deployments in hotspots and on major roads to curb crime, especially violent incidents.
