Tragic Loss: 13-Year-Old Miami Gardens Boy Fatally Shot During Video Game Night

Over the weekend, tragedy struck a Miami Gardens home when a gun accidentally discharged, claiming the life of 13-year-old George Harris Jr. Friends and family are mourning the loss of the young football enthusiast, who was identified as the victim of the unfortunate incident. The incident occurred in a residence on Northwest 207th Street near 38th Avenue in Miami Gardens, where Harris and several other teens were reportedly engaged in a video game session.

 

 

 

 

Miami Gardens police responded to the incident promptly, rushing to the scene around 7:40 p.m. on Saturday. Upon arrival, they discovered Harris with a gunshot wound to the back of his head. Despite swift efforts by paramedics who airlifted him to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, the young boy succumbed to his injuries. Sergeant Emmanuel Jeanty of the Miami Gardens Police expressed concern over the accessibility of firearms to children, emphasizing the importance of responsible gun ownership to prevent such tragic accidents.

 

 

 

 

The investigation is ongoing, and while detectives have detained several individuals for questioning, it remains uncertain whether any charges will be filed in connection with the incident. As the community grapples with the loss of George Harris Jr., authorities are urging gun owners to take necessary precautions, such as using gun locks and securing firearms away from children, to prevent similar heartbreaking incidents in the future.
