Andre Kyamagero, a TV presenter and podcast host of “ManCave Uganda”, is facing backlash from young netizens over his controversial comments about marriage roles.
During his appearance on the Bump, a YouTube show and podcast featuring various panelists, Kyamagero made remarks that have sparked widespread criticism. “If I return home and my wife doesn’t warm food for me, I will not eat at home again. My food cannot be warmed in the microwave but must be put on a stove,” Kyamagero stated. He added that women should be grateful that men choose to return home after a day’s work, and emphasized that his duty as a man is to think strategically, not to be involved in household chores like cooking.
These comments have ignited a firestorm on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), with many calling him out for what they perceive as misogynistic views that reinforce traditional gender roles.
Some of the reactions include:
- “We are in mid-2024; you can’t be sitting as seemingly educated and exposed people and debating house chores, man 😂😂😂. Also, Kyamagero with ‘Ndi Musajja Muganda….’ Jamaa jazzed like he is the one who looks after Kasubi Tombs.”
- “RIP to this show. Thank you, @NabachwaPumla, for leaving when you did. Now, for relevance, they’re chasing clout and hosting misogynistic toxic men.”
- “Someone should tell Phanero that even our great grandmothers were cheated on, so let him remove cheating from all this! In marriage, it’s all about understanding each other. There are things my man will do for me that your man can’t & vice versa! People find excuses to cheat!”
- “If we are all working and both coming back late, why would a man expect you to prepare dinner for him at that late hour? Marriage is all about agreement, and your wife is not your slave. Men shouldn’t use social media to blackmail us women. If you prefer warm food, simply buy that rolex at Najjera market on your way home.”
In defense of his remarks, Kyamagero posted a video featuring Phaneroo Minister Lubega discussing traditional marriage values. In the video, Lubega said, “Our mothers waited for our fathers to eat, but the dot-com generation leaves food in the microwave and goes to sleep. If your husband comes back home, serve him food, sit with him, and let him eat as you discuss. If the meat is hard, promise to make it softer next time. See if he cheats on you.”
Comedian Salvador weighed in on the controversy, stating, “If you have never been married, your opinions about marriage are stupid. I will say it again… Stupid. Don’t impose your thoughts on how actual married people should live. You guys watch too many movies. Marriage is work, commitment, rules, discipline, faith, joy.”
The debate continues to rage online, with many calling for a more modern and equal approach to marriage and household responsibilities.
