Ugandan importers who have not cleared their vehicles from Mombasa Port risk losing them in an upcoming auction.
The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has announced that all vehicles in this category will be auctioned off within 30 days if not cleared.
In a statement released on Friday, the URA said: “Pursuant to S. 42 (1) of the East African Community Customs Management Act 2004, the Commissioner of Customs requests owners of motor vehicles at Mombasa Port and goods in the Customs Warehouse that have exceeded their statutory clearance and warehousing period (un-customed goods) to clear the same within 30 days from the date of first publication of this Notice by paying all the requisite taxes, fees, and charges that will have accrued thereon. All motor vehicles and goods that remain un-cleared after 30 days of the first publication of this notice shall be disposed of by way of public auction.”
The auction will be conducted online, and the statement provided further details: “Online viewing will run from 18th to 22nd June 2024. The bidding process will run from 23rd to 25th June 2024. All relevant information pertaining to customs auctions can be accessed using the provided link.”
Importers are urged to clear their vehicles promptly to avoid losing them in the auction.
