The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has clarified that the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing System (EFRIS) remains operational, dispelling rumors of its suspension following a recent directive from the President.
In a detailed advisory, URA outlined key directives and initiatives to guide taxpayers and businesses in navigating the EFRIS system.
According to URA, EFRIS has not been suspended, and all taxpayers, particularly VAT-registered businesses, are urged to continue using the system as required by law.
Currently, usage of EFRIS is mandatory for all Value Added Tax (VAT)-registered taxpayers, and URA will continue providing guidance and support to facilitate the on-boarding process.
In response to the Presidential directive, penalties for non-compliance with EFRIS have been temporarily suspended until May 7, 2024, benefiting individuals engaged in general trade, particularly in areas like Kikuubo and similar business hubs.
Additionally, URA is enhancing tax education and business support initiatives to improve understanding and compliance with EFRIS requirements.
The EFRIS platform offers various benefits to the business community, including stock management, sales management, return filing, refund management, and issuance of electronic receipts.
